What a season it was for the 2025 Lady Eagle Volleyball team!

The journey began well before the season started. Spring try-outs and spring team practices. Summer workouts and team camps. Long, grueling practices. Bruises, sprains, aches and pains. Drills, drills, and more drills. All of it for the love of the game, love of the team and love for Central Catholic. And all of the effort was, ultimately, for the glory of God.

The 2025 Lady Eagles had a tremendous season finishing with an outstanding 25-5 record (for the regular season). They were crowned District Champions and entered the LHSAA State Volleyball Tournament ranked #3 in Division V.

In the Quarterfinal match, the Lady Eagles defeated Episcopal School of Acadiana in four sets. With ESA out of the way, next came the Semifinals with a tougher team who would put up a tougher fight. Westminster Christian Academy showed that they wouldn't go away as easily. Both teams fought HARD for a victory that would clench a ticket to the big dance- the Finals. The Lady Eagles were ultimately victorious in defeating Westminster in five sets. That win set up the Division V Finals - Central Catholic Lady Eagles and Country Day School of Metarie, a team with a legacy of state championships. The Lady Eagles fought with all their hearts, putting it all out on the court. Country Day school ultimately won the match to take home the Division V State Championship. Central Catholic Lady Eagles were crowned State Runners-up and accepted the award with grace and class. Well done, ladies. Well done.

The Lady Eagles were awarded the 2025 Volleyball Sportsmanship Award (voted on by the Thibodaux Volleyball Officials Association). This award is given to the team who treats others with respect and kindness during all their athletic events.

Hall of Fame Inducts Four New Members

Central Catholic and its predecessors, Sacred Heart Academy and Sacred Heart High School have been in existence since 1894. Throughout the 130 years, each has graduated many outstanding men and women and have had countless outstanding benefactors make significant contributions to the school. In order to make full use of its rich tradition in education and to give special recognition to a number of these outstanding graduates and outstanding persons closely connected with the school, the Central Catholic Hall of Fame was established during the year of 1979.

We congratulate those named below on being nominated, selected, and inducted for either the Meritorious Service or Athletic Achievement awards. On Sunday, November 3, 2024 a special recognition and induction ceremony was held in the Yvonne Anne Adams Life Center for the families and friends of the newest Hall of Fame inductees.

As a former college athlete, Roger not only coached junior high basketball but also played a crucial role in recruiting athletic coaches, ensuring students received quality mentorship. Beyond his time and talents, Roger’s financial support has enabled many students to pursue a Catholic education, demonstrating his deep commitment to their growth and success. His selflessness and generosity have made a lasting impact on the community, truly embodying the spirit of service for the greater good.

Dr. Karen Hayes Ordogne

Karen Hayes Ordogne was a remarkable individual whose life was a testament to the virtues of service, honor, and obedience. A graduate of 1971, she dedicated herself to the faith formation of young minds, profoundly impacting the community at Central Catholic High School. Her deep commitment to sharing her faith was evident in her pivotal role in organizing and implementing the Come, Lord Jesus program, which became a cornerstone of spiritual growth for many students. Karen's legacy is defined by her unwavering dedication to spreading God's glory, not just through her words but through her actions, as she embodied the true essence of discipleship. Her contributions have left an indelible mark on those she guided, inspiring others to live a life of purpose and faith.

Ron Case, a dedicated 1980 alumnus, has been a pillar of support and inspiration for students at his alma mater for over two decades. His passion for nurturing young talent extends far beyond athletic prowess, a she focuses on character development both on and off the courts and fields. Known for his calm temperament and compassionate demeanor, Ron instills confidence in his players, encouraging them to become valuable team members. While he expertly imparts the fundamentals of the game, his true legacy lies in teaching the importance of teamwork and mutual respect. Through his unwavering devotion, Ron has profoundly touched the lives of countless students, leaving an indelible mark on their personal growth and character development.

Louis Maraist, III

Louis Maraist, III exemplifies the embodiment of a servant leader and dedicated community member. As a 1962 alumnus, his journey began at Central Catholic, where he not only excelled as a student athlete but also thrived in student civic organizations. These early experiences laid the foundation for his character development imbuing him with physical, moral and civic virtues that he carried into his collegiate and professional life. At USL, his leadership as Student Council President and his achievements on the track team highlighted his commitment to personal growth and community service. Louis's career is adorned with numerous certifications and recognitions, a testament to his continued dedication to excellence and service. His life reflects the Gospel message as he consistently uses his gifts and talents to uplift those around him, demonstrating the profound impact of a life dedicated to the betterment of others.

Seniors recognized for their performance

On Friday, May 17 (graduation eve), Central Catholic held its annual tradition of bestowing awards and recognition on Seniors at Senior Breakfast. Held at the Petroleum Club in Morgan City, Senior Breakfast was attended by Seniors and their families. Also in attendance were Central Catholic Grades 6 to 12 Principal, Pete Boudreaux, Senior Class Advisor, Mrs. Constance Wallace, School Counselor, Mrs. Karen Tycer, Athletic Director, Ree Case and various award and scholarship presenters.

Senior Breakfast Awards include academic award such as Valedictorian Awards and Honor Graduate awards as well as Athletic Awards. Awards that recognize students for outstanding moral character , citizenship, service and Catholic Christian discipleship were also awarded.

This year, select Seniors were awarded scholarships from many local foundations and organizations including East St. Mary Kiwanis, Miles Liner Foundation, H & B Young Foundation, MC Bank, and the Atchafalaya Lodge Fraternal Order of Police. These scholarships were the final presentations of the morning.

Congratulations to the award and scholarship recipients and to all members of the Class of 2024. Job well done!

Central Catholic Students Pay Tribute to the Blessed Virgin Mary

During the month of May, Catholics honor our heavenly Queen Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary. May is lovingly known as "the month of Mary". During the first school Mass in the month of May, students in Pre-K3 to 5 and 6 to 12 held a special "May Crowning" wherein they placed a crown of fresh flowers on Mary statues located in Holy Cross Church and on campus grounds.

Students in grades Pre-K3 to 5 crowned Mary in Holy Cross Church on May 1, 2024 during a school Mass led by the second graders. During the entrance procession, students representing each grade level presented fresh flowers to Mary creating a beautiful bouquet.

On Thursday, May 2, students in grades 6 to 12 held their May Crowning. Following Mass, students and faculty processed from Holy Cross Church to Mary's Garden and Prayer Sanctuary. Mary's Garden is located in the greenspace area near the Library building. It was dedicated and blessed in December 2023 on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

During this year's Mary Crowning the general student body lead the processional followed by two student representatives from each grade level. The students each carried a fresh flower that was presented to Mary. Father Francis crowned Mary and prayed with the students and faculty. Following the crowning, Fr. Francis blessed the grotto and the students and faculty present.

Father Francis asked all students to pray the Hail Mary at the beginning and end of every class as well as at the beginning and end of each day during the month of May.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
